Extra 300 47"

Splat,

47" is 1.2m wingspan. For 3D flying you need 150 to 200w / lb. thus for the AUW of 4.4lb you need about 800w max. more realistic is about 600w.

Have look at the 2826 size motors. A 2826 1000kv on 14x7 or 13x7 on 3s1p will work fine. If you have 4s packs, a 2826/6 730kv on same prop will work as well.
40-50a esc shold be ok
If you into sport flying rather just haning on prop all day, you can simply go for small prop.

Cheers

Hi,

I was actually looking at something along the lines of a Turnigy 42-50 700Kv (apparently .32 nitro equivalent) on a 60A ESC, you think that will then be overkill?

I like the idea of 3s setup, but with the lower kv of the above I was wondering whether I'd need to be going 4s.

Flying style would be limited to Sport style flying with a balance on speed and acceleration, since I haven't flown fixed wing in ages and pylon racing was never in my blood ;)

42-50 .. ish. 2212 motor pulls 2m glider with no problem. 2208 flies mini stick with ease !

put in perspective, 3520 with 11x5.5 and 5s2p A123 can prop hang a trainer of 3.2kg. ;-).

3520 size motor is about 50-60 size, 42xx about 90-120. 53xx 120+. (sport flying)

Normally we go one size up for 3D to get the KV as low as possible and swing larger props. So on 50size Extra we spec 4120 5s1p and flies like charm.. prop hangs very nice and stupid climb outs.

Ok, glad I didn't buy anything yet!

I'll double check my AUW, aiming at 1.5 - 2.0 Kg then try your recommendation and play with prop sizes a bit.

Thanks!
