electric setup for Piper cub 40

Postby jaybeepee » Wed Mar 10, 2010 8:39 am

Hi All,

I am a heli pilot and I've just got my hands on a piper cub 40 size shell. I'd like to put an electric setup in but here's the catch. I'd like to reuse the LiPo's I use in my Trex 500 Heli (6s 3000mah @ 450grams).

Can anyone suggest a motor / esc combo for this setup?

AUW of cub 40 is about 3.5kg.

thanks in advance

Hi Jason

sure can help.... Only problem with the 6s packs is we normally use that in a bigger aircraft.

Normal 40 size conversion is the 3520 on 4s1p and 11x5.5 prop with >40A esc

If you want to use the 6s, you need to lower the KV on the motor, so a 4120 610kv will work. example: http://www.rcgear.co.za/brushless-motor-a4120-7.html
40a or bigger ESC needed Example: http://www.rcgear.co.za/nnb-50a-esc-no-bec.html

This will give you about 600w of power, more than enough for piper cub.. If you feel not enough power ,you go up to about about 13x7 prop for 1100w

cheers
