HK 450

Postby BEX » Fri Feb 26, 2010 10:24 am

Ive been flying RC planes for a couple of years now and recently Heli have been trying to lure me in . There no way i will spen a couple of thousand on a Heli as first of all
Ill be teaching myself to fly.
Second , Im not into aerobatics or 3D or anything like that , Scale like performance is good for me.

So ive been looking at the HK 450 . A friend whos been flying Helis for a long time got himself one to try it out , and his verdict has been positive on it.
WHat do you guys think about them?

Bex,

We setup one the other day, the full metal one.. Very supprised how it flew. Biggest issue is the screwes, they are REALLY soft. best to just get some spare ones and use them. I'll get the pilot to comment as well ;-)

we used a NNB 2217 heli motor and NNB 40A esc, works like charm on 13T pinion.

cheers

Im going to use the Turnigy E500 6T 4000Kv 200W motor , not sure yet about the pinion . I have downloaded the Trex manual as i have never assembled a heli before , so ill be reading that a bit while i wait for the package to arive.

4000kv... we run 3000kv with 13T. I won't go larger than 10T pinion on the 4000kv.. but i'll go do some calcs let you know

My friend bought the latest Version. 2, and it seems that most of the minor niggles is sorted now including the soft screws.

Very steady and flies like a dream! Will post photographs as soon as my new canopy is fitted. :D

yup, saw a v2 kit last nigt at velodrome. looks like the future of really low cost decent kit has truly arrived. it's just so way ahead of the esky stuff, even the new belt v2/ hkb3. my experience of the hk 450 has been very positive. the new version lands at the same cost as v1, yet comes with a metal tail belt drive, an alloy main mast, a full alloy swash, indestructable one piece skids etc. the frame screws around the tail boom clamp were sad in v1, i replaced these with machine screws. i have also crashed my hk450, not my fault but a servo failure  . flys very stable and tons of cheap spares available on ebay or at lhs. it has been almost a no cost heli to run so far besides the usual stuff, blades, batteries. i run mine on a123's so batteries are really not an issue! because of it's low cost and stability, a perfect beginner heli. just pop your electronics from your misarable starter heli onto this frame.

as a matter of interest, koos, have you given the metal kit good wring out? gunter on another forum as well as some the hardcore guys there tried to break the v1 and could not!they upgraded the tail drive to a rex as well as the motor mount.

the one on that pic is V1... maybe they have the V2 in stock and not updated the site as yet. I would go for V2, even if its the normal version (non metal)
